Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is an MLA in Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar North Constituency.

He was an IPS officer of Punjab Cadre of 1998 batch. He resigned from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in April 2021. He had still nine years of service left, when he resigned. He joined the profession of Law as an advocate, after leaving his job. Subsequently, he joined Aam Aadmi Party and has been working for bringing total political reformation. His mission is to bring back the glory of Punjab.

Educational Qualifications:

  • M.A. in Sanskrit literature with specialization in Philosophy from Patna University
  • Ph.D. (Police Administration) from the GNDU Amritsar
  • LL.B. (Panjab University, Chandigarh)
  • MBA in HR & Strategic Management (IGNOU)
  • MA Political Science (IGNOU)
  • Diploma in French and German Languages (GNDU Amritsar)
  • Certificate Course in Rural Development (IGNOU)

Important Positions held as a police officer:

He started his career as ASP from the holy City of Amritsar in 1999 and has distinction to serve in Amritsar in every capacity i.e. SP City, SSP Amritsar and DIG Border Range.

He has also served as Police Commissioner of Jalandhar and Ludhiana Cities.

He has also distinctly worked as DIG of Ludhiana Range and Jalandhar Range.

As IG STF, he acted tough against gangsters and ensured gangster-free Assembly Elections 2017. He has remarkably controlled the menace of gangsters in Punjab as IG STF.

He has been spearheading the investigation of Kotkapura & Behbal Kalan firing cases originated from the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

He has also worked as honorary Co-opted Member of Legal Education Committe of Bar Council of India.

  • Director General Commendation Disc (2017) for significant contribution in peaceful conduct of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections 2017
  • Baba Farid Award for Honesty and Dedication in 2004 by Baba Farid Society, Faridkot, Punjab
  • Award of Vocational Excellence by Rotary Club Amritsar in April 2007 for bringing reforms in policing
  • IVF Award 2006 by India  Vision Foundation (A trust founded by Dr Kiran Bedi) for Prison Reforms
